We have spent the day discussing the layout of our blog. It was a very heated discussion with similarly conflicting layout opinions, and as a result, we decided to leave it as it is. Also, we ate apples.

  1. Oh, and by the way, we also managed to finally hone in on our concept design. We have decided to combine three of our ideas into one, hopefully useful, product.

The three ideas we will try to implement is:

    1. A scenario-system, in which either the grandparents write down a story/scenario from their life. Ideally, it is a story with a moral/lesson, that the child can learn from. Before writing the end of the story, though, they will ask the reader something on the lines of "what would you have done in my shoes and why?" or "what do you think happened now?", which will encourage the recipent to really think and analyse the situation and story, and will hopefully result in a deep and meaningful conversation between the storyteller and the recipient. When they have discussed the possibilities, the grandparent will finish the story, explain his choice and what he learned from it.

    2. We need a system to mediate the above mentioned scenarios, and we have chosen to use letters and mailboxes as a metaphor for our interface. Meaning that we will try to develop a TUI system with which the elderly can send their stories, and the youngsters can use emails to interact. This way, both generations can communicate using their accustomed and preferred mediums.

    3. Finally, we would like to implement an awareness aspect in the physical product. We are not yet sure wether it will be lights, colors, sounds etc.

We feel that this combination will be a suitable solution to the problems we discovered in our user studies.
